Scottish Highlands
We chose to book a Highland’s Tour through Rabbie’s Tours, they offer a variety of different tours and I highly recommend checking them out. Our tour was the Kingdom of Fife & St. Andrew’s, leaving out of Edinburgh. It was very easy to find the departure point, we met at the bus station & they provided wonderful instructions on exactly where to go to meet your driver. We had about 15 passengers in our bus, our driver was pretty good with conversation & providing interesting information. Our first point of the tour is crossing over the bridges of the Firth of Fourth, which leads from Edinburgh city into the Highlands. After a bit of driving, we stopped in a small fishing village named Ansthruther, famously known for it’s Fish & Chips. We had about an hour to stroll around the town, we did a bit of shopping & I went on a photography walk. The views were stunning and the character of the town surrounds you. I will say though it was insanely windy, even with a windbreaker on so if you plan on visiting, be prepared as it is right on the water.
Next we travelled through the fertile agricultural lands of the Kingdom of Fife until we arrived to St. Andrew’s. We had really wanted to see St. Andrew’s Cathedral and we got so distracted by lunch & shopping that we didn’t get a chance to see it. So definitely going to be coming back here at some point to explore further. St. Andrew’s is a beautiful town, words can’t even begin to describe it. Most notorious for it’s claim as the founder of Golf, it is also home to St. Andrew’s University (where Will met Kate).
We had the most delightful lunch at a spot called Central Bar. My mom chose the Fish & Chips with mushy peas and I had a Bellhaven Steak & Ale Pie, so so good. After lunch, we decided to stroll through the streets of shops. There was a candle store I loved and had a great chat with the owner about travels. By then it was about time to meet our bus driver so we strolled back to the meeting place where there was a beach. It was so cute—an older golden retriever was playing out in the water and he kept dunking his head under then running to his human. I finally caught him on camera and here he was picking rocks then taking them back to her. Made my whole soul smile.
